Virgin Media Television, a broadcasting company in Ireland, reported an “unauthorised attempt” to access its systems, leading to a major hack. The National Cyber Security Centre is currently investigating the breach, and the company has temporarily disconnected some technologies to ensure maximum security.
Recorded programming on some of its channels will also be affected during the review process. It expects normal service will resume as soon as the review and verification process is complete.
Virgin Media Television stated that the issue was isolated to their television branch and does not relate to any other Virgin Media operations in Ireland. While the extent and scale of the breach are still unknown, Minister of State Ossian Smyth said that he had been informed of a “major hack” at the broadcasting company. The broadcaster said that it operates stringent cyber protection measures and immediately activates precautions in the event of such an instance.
This latest breach highlights the importance of stringent cybersecurity measures, and the continued need to be vigilant and implement best practices to protect against cyber attacks. Companies must remain proactive in identifying vulnerabilities and securing their systems to prevent unauthorized access.
Cybersecurity breaches can lead to significant disruptions and reputational damage, not to mention the potential financial losses associated with compromised systems. As such, it is essential for companies to take cybersecurity seriously and continually evaluate and improve their security posture.
