Swiss cybersecurity firm Acronis has confirmed a security breach of its systems, according to the company’s CISO. However, the incident reportedly only impacted a single customer, and all other data remains safe.
The leak was discovered on Breached Forums leak-mart, where an attacker, who goes by the name Kernelware, claimed to have hacked and leaked a significant amount of data, including certificate files, system configurations, and screenshots of backup operations.
In the post, Kernelware criticized Acronis’ security practices and referred to them as “dogshit.” The breach reportedly came about because the attacker was bored and wanted to humiliate the company.
Acronis later confirmed that the customer’s credentials were compromised, and the company suspended their account access to resolve the issue. The leaked archive posted by Kernelware was 12.2 GBs in size.
Although the breach appears to have been limited to one customer, it has raised concerns about the overall security of Acronis. The company, which provides data protection and information security solutions, has been criticized for having weak security measures.
Acronis assured the public that it is investigating the incident and will provide updates as new information becomes available. It remains to be seen how this incident will impact Acronis’ reputation and what measures the company will take to prevent future breaches.
