Fresh Del Monte Produce, Inc., a global fruit and vegetable company, recently experienced a data breach resulting in unauthorized access to confidential employee information.
The breach involved the exposure of consumers’ names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, passport numbers, financial account information, and protected health information. In response to the breach, Fresh Del Monte filed a notice with the Attorney General of Massachusetts and initiated the process of notifying affected individuals.
The breach was discovered on January 13, 2023, prompting an investigation by Del Monte, which temporarily shut down its systems to prevent further access. The investigation confirmed that certain parts of the company’s computer network had been accessed by an unauthorized party, potentially compromising confidential employee data.
However, Fresh Del Monte believes that consumer data remained unaffected.
Following the breach, Fresh Del Monte reviewed the compromised files to determine the extent of the information compromised and identify the affected consumers. This process was completed on April 25, 2023.
Affected individuals received data breach notification letters from the company on May 16, 2023, containing information about the breach and potential steps to mitigate the risk of fraud or identity theft.
