The privacy-focused Brave Browser has unveiled a new feature called “Forgetful Browsing”, which prevents sites from re-identifying users on subsequent visits. This feature clears not only cookies but also data in local storage and the cache when closing a website, ensuring user anonymity.
Users can enable it globally or for specific sites through the browser’s settings menu.
While Brave Browser already provides robust protections against third-party tracking, first-party tracking remains a privacy concern.
By addressing this issue, Brave aims to prevent the aggregation of user data for targeted advertising and the association of multiple visitor accounts with the same person or household.
To activate “Forgetful Browsing,” users can navigate to the browser’s settings, access the Shields section, and select the “Forget me when I close a site” option for the global default.
Additionally, users can customize the feature for individual websites by accessing the shields icon on the URL bar and enabling the setting from the Advanced Controls menu.
The new feature will be initially available on the desktop version 1.53 of Brave Browser, with Android users receiving the update in version 1.54. Brave Browser aims to offer a user-friendly and integrated solution to address first-party tracking concerns and enhance privacy for its users.
